CP Yemi Oyeniyi Strengthens Security Partnership in Ughelli, Seeks Stakeholder Support Against Crime

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening community policing and strategic partnerships with traditional institutions as part of efforts to combat crime across the state.

The assurance was given during his familiarization tour of the Ughelli Area Command on Thursday, July 9, 2026, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, held interactive sessions with critical stakeholders, and addressed officers and men of the Area Command.

Speaking during the royal visit, CP Oyeniyi commended the monarch and the people of Ughelli Kingdom for their sustained support for the Nigeria Police Force. He reiterated the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Rilwan Olatunji Disu, on deepening grassroots policing through closer collaboration with traditional rulers and local communities.

The Police Commissioner stressed that effective intelligence sharing remains vital in tackling cultism, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking, and other violent crimes. He assured the monarch that the Delta State Police Command would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities professionally, while upholding the rule of law and respecting the fundamental rights of citizens.

In his response, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom reaffirmed the palace’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Police in safeguarding lives and property across the kingdom. He declared that no criminal would be protected because of ethnic or community ties, warning that individuals shielded today could become future threats to the peace and security of the kingdom.

The traditional ruler further pledged the palace’s continued cooperation with security agencies through intelligence sharing and other collaborative initiatives, noting that the people of Ughelli have confidence in the Police and will continue to support law enforcement efforts.

As part of the visit, CP Oyeniyi also met with community stakeholders, urging them to strengthen collaboration with the Police by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime before it occurs.

Addressing officers and men of the Area Command, the Commissioner charged personnel to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and civility in their interactions with members of the public. He also directed officers to strictly adhere to the Force’s Standard Operating Procedures and comply with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning that unauthorized use of social media or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute would not be tolerated.

The Commissioner concluded by urging officers to remain committed to the Inspector General of Police’s vision of a professional, intelligence-driven, and people-oriented Police Force dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Delta State.
