School Driver Arrested for Kidnapping Child, Collecting ₦500,000 Ransom in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected child kidnapper who allegedly betrayed the trust of a family by abducting a child he was employed to convey to and from school.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was engaged by the child’s parents to pick up and drop off the child from school on a daily basis. However, rather than carrying out his responsibility, he allegedly kidnapped the child and demanded a ransom from the family.

Edafe disclosed that the suspect reportedly received ₦500,000 as ransom before releasing the victim.

He explained that immediately after the incident was reported to the police, the Delta State Police Command launched an intelligence-led investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

During the operation, detectives also recovered part of the ransom money allegedly collected by the suspect, while investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining amount and establish whether other persons were involved in the crime.

The police spokesman described the arrest as another testament to the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and its determination to ensure that perpetrators of kidnapping and other violent crimes are brought to justice.

He urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to the police, assuring the public that the Delta State Police Command will continue to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
