2027: Atiku/Amaechi Ticket Will End Suffering In Nigeria, Ex-Agitators Group Claims

A coalition representing ex-agitators in the Niger Delta has declared that a joint presidential ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi offers the best alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement jointly signed by the group’s Chairman, Gen. Ojuemi Oweikeme, Secretary, Gen. Markson Isere, and Spokesperson, Comrade Daniel Ezekiel Perela, the group expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the nation, citing rising poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.

The group alleged that Nigerians across all geopolitical zones are grappling with worsening living conditions, claiming that many families now struggle to afford a meal a day while incidents of kidnapping have continued to increase.

According to the statement, President Tinubu’s administration has failed to deliver meaningful economic reforms, arguing instead that the government has relied on policies lacking clear direction. The group also referenced recent projections by international financial institutions indicating that poverty levels in Nigeria could worsen if urgent measures are not taken.

It further accused the Federal Government of excessive borrowing without corresponding improvements in the welfare of citizens, while expressing concern over allegations of financial mismanagement and poor budget implementation.

On security, the coalition maintained that the government’s primary responsibility of protecting lives and property has not been adequately fulfilled, alleging that insecurity remains prevalent across several parts of the country.

The group claimed that growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration has strengthened calls for political change in the 2027 elections.

Making a case for an Atiku/Amaechi presidential ticket, the coalition highlighted Atiku Abubakar’s role as head of Nigeria’s economic team during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, crediting him with reforms that liberalised the telecommunications sector and expanded employment opportunities.

It also praised former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi for overseeing major railway projects, including the completion of the 326-kilometre Warri–Itakpe standard gauge railway, which had remained abandoned for decades.

The coalition, which described itself as an umbrella body representing ex-agitators from the Presidential Amnesty Programme Phases 1, 2 and 3, urged people of the Niger Delta to reject what it described as attempts by certain individuals to promote and return President Tinubu’s administration in the country.
