Delta Police, LG Councils Shut Down Illegal Parks in Asaba, Impound 45 Vehicles

The Delta State Police Command, in partnership with the Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Councils, has intensified efforts to restore order in the Asaba metropolis with a crackdown on unauthorized motor parks and garages operating across the state capital.

The enforcement exercise, which commenced on Monday, July 20, 2026, targeted illegal parks and garages identified as major contributors to traffic congestion, insecurity, and public disorder. The operation also sought to curb the use of unregulated parks for the movement of unchecked parcels and waybills, a practice the police say has become a potential avenue for criminal activities.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives dismantled a total of nine illegal parks at strategic locations across Asaba. The affected sites included one at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road, two at the Summit area, three at the Koka axis, and three others around the Head Bridge boundary between Delta and Anambra states.

The operation also led to the impoundment of 45 vehicles, which have been handed over to the relevant local government authorities for possible prosecution in line with existing laws and regulations.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the exercise forms part of a broader strategy aimed at sanitizing the transportation sector, enhancing public safety, and ensuring that only duly registered parks and garages operate within the state.

He assured residents that similar enforcement operations would be extended to other parts of Delta State as part of the command’s commitment to effective policing and crime prevention.

The police urged transport operators, motorists, and members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with established regulations and patronizing only government-approved parks and garages.

The command reiterated that community support remains vital in sustaining efforts to maintain law and order across Delta State.
