Delta Police Arrest 81 Suspects in Intelligence-Led Raid on Criminal Black Spots, Recover Suspected Illicit Drugs

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of 81 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting identified criminal black spots across the Asaba metropolis.

The operation, conducted on July 24, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations alongside tactical teams of the command as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety across Delta State.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the raid was carried out based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of 81 suspects, comprising 50 males and 31 females.

The police disclosed that the suspects were arrested for offences including the sale and possession of suspected illicit drugs and operating an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge. During the operation, officers recovered large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

In addition, five vehicles were impounded for various violations, including operating an unauthorized taxi park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road and allegedly facilitating the sale and distribution of suspected illicit drugs within the area.

The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across the state. He warned individuals engaged in criminal activities to desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

The latest operation underscores the Delta State Police Command’s renewed determination to sustain aggressive policing strategies aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts, curbing illicit drug trafficking, and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
