Police Rescue 75 Travellers Abducted By Gunmen In Kaduna

Police operatives have rescued 75 travellers, including men, women and children, who were abducted by gunmen near Folwaya Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The victims were travelling in commercial buses when the attackers intercepted them at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, and took them into a forest, where they were reportedly hidden inside a cave in a mountainous area.

According to Kaduna Police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, the rescue operation followed timely intelligence from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which alerted the police after receiving information about the abduction.

A crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location. On sighting the armed police operatives, the kidnappers fled, abandoning the victims, who were rescued unharmed.

The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW branch for providing the vital information and praised the Area Commander and his personnel for their swift response.
