Zamfara State was filled with a large crowd on Monday night as the governorship candidate of the NDC, Senator Kabiru Marafa, visited the state to inaugurate his campaign committee.

During the gathering, Marafa presented some party chieftains with luxury vehicles, saying each vehicle he gave was equivalent to 100 vehicles that, according to him, members of the ruling party could afford to provide.

Marafa said members of the ruling party could not make such gestures, alleging that since he left the party, assistance and support to the poor and people of Zamfara had stopped.

He said now that he had returned, he would continue to support the people, adding that he knew that once he started, members of the ruling party would imitate him.

The candidate also announced that he would distribute vehicles on five different occasions to five categories of his campaign and NDC party officials, from the highest level down to the grassroots.

He added that youths and women would also benefit from his support programmes aimed at reducing the economic hardship they were experiencing under the current administration.

Marafa promised that his government would work with and support the people, saying further details would be unveiled as he continued to engage with the people of Zamfara in an effort to, as he put it, “wipe away their tears.”

He thanked the large crowd for attending the event and apologized for the delay in the programme. He said he arrived in the state in the morning, but the large number of people who came out to welcome him prevented him from proceeding with his scheduled activities until after 8pm.
