NSCDC Begins Disciplinary Probe Into Deaths of 37 Suspected Illegal Miners

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded its suspended Niger State Commandant, Commandant Suberu Aniviye and 23 other personnel over the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the Corps’ custody.

The development comes as the Corps intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with questions being raised over the treatment, supervision and accountability of personnel involved.

Addressing journalists at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant Babawale Afolabi, says 24 personnel are currently under investigation.

Afolabi says the Corps will leave no stone unturned in establishing what happened, stressing that any personnel found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures and the full weight of the law.

He adds that the investigation is part of the Corps’ commitment to transparency, protection of human rights and strict adherence to professional and ethical standards.

The NSCDC says the outcome of the investigation will determine further administrative and legal actions against any personnel found responsible.
