UNGA 81st: Nigerians in Diaspora Remain Indispensable to Nigeria’s Future

Nigerians in the Diaspora have been described as indispensable to Nigeria’s future and development.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, stated this at a Town Hall with Nigerians in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The Minister, in a statement by her Media Aide, Magnus Eze, says Nigerians abroad are more than a source of remittances, describing them as professionals, entrepreneurs and bridges between Nigeria and the world.

She reaffirms commitment to Citizen Diplomacy and urges Missions abroad to remain accessible and responsive to Nigerians.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu also urges the Diaspora to respect laws of host countries, mentor young Nigerians, and deploy their expertise, investments and networks for national development.

The Minister assures that the Ministry will work with NiDCOM and Missions to strengthen engagement and consular support.
