The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed deep grief over the fatal crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR42 aircraft near Igbokoda in Ondo State, describing the incident as a painful loss to the nation and the South-South region.

In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, on October 6, 2026, PANDEF said it received the news of the crash with shock and sadness, noting that several people from the South-South were reportedly among those affected.

The forum extended its condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Air Force, the Federal Government and Nigerians, particularly mourning the loss of military personnel who died while serving the country.

PANDEF said the tragedy was made more painful by the fact that many of the victims were young Nigerians who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect the nation and contribute to its peace and security.

The forum urged Nigerians to offer prayers for the bereaved families and members of the armed forces serving across various operational theatres, especially at a time the country continues to confront serious security challenges.

Beyond the immediate tragedy, PANDEF called on the Federal Government to strengthen continuous investment in the combat readiness, equipment and maintenance of military assets to enhance the safety and effectiveness of personnel deployed on national assignments.

It also demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, stressing that every factor that may have contributed to the incident must be established to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

PANDEF further appealed to Nigerians to unite behind efforts to strengthen peace and security across the country, saying national solidarity remains essential in confronting the security challenges threatening the wellbeing of citizens.
