Restructuring: Niger Delta Group Makes Case for Nonviolence Campaigns

A group under the auspices of Nonviolent Campaign Movement in Niger Delta has said except there is true federalism, Nigeria economy would continue to collapse.
This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s coordinator Mr Oweikeme Johnny Peter which a copy was sent to Congress correspondent during the weekend.
The statement read: “We discovered that before the discovery of crude oil in the NIGER DELTA there was resource control which is true federalism in this country, you maybe asking why was it stopped?
“It’s a long story, it’s a fact that the NIGER DELTA struggle was borne out of political marginalization by the Nigeria government and the multi- national oil companies. History has it that crude oil was discovered in Oloibiri community present Bayelsa State in the year 1956 but further studies revealed that crude has been discovered since 1901 and that the commercial development of the crude oil only started in the year 1956, which means even before amaggamation crude oil has been found in the NIGER DELTA.
The group asserted that Niger Deltans should take further steps to liberate the region from all forms of slavery.
Peter further added: “All those who must play key roles in this Nonviolence campaign must stay out of this Nigeria politics, for one to win a battle of a cycle, such persons must stay out of the cycle to fight and win that cycle.
“The northerners are planning to islamise Nigeria to be in line with the unitary laws to have total control of this crude oil. Resource control or I see another civil war in Nigeria”, the group retorted.
