Abraka Community Distances Self From Ogboru’s Defection, Reaffirms Support For Gov Oborevwori

By Peters Monday, Abuja
Renowned Nigerian indigenous language advocate, Niger Delta activist, and 2023 ADC Ethiope Federal House of Representatives candidate, Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj, has reacted to the recent defection of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru to the APC, stating unequivocally that Abraka community will not continue to play opposition politics.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Prince Oj emphasized that the dynamics of time and season have changed the political landscape in Delta, and the people of Abraka have become wiser, realizing that opposition politics is detrimental to the shared growth and collective development of their community.
“We have come to understand that playing opposition politics has not yielded the desired benefits for our people. Instead, it has hindered and stunted our collective progress and development. We cannot continue to be left behind while other communities are moving forward,” Prince Oj declared.
Recalling his role in leading protests to draw government attention to the deplorable state of access roads in Abraka, including the Abraka old road and expressway, Prince Oj noted that it is Governor Sherif Oborivwori who is currently intervening in the rehabilitation of these roads for the overall good of the people and commuters.
“We protested to draw government attention to our plight, and it is gratifying to see that Governor Oborivwori has taken steps to address our concerns. This is a clear indication that our community is better off working with the Delta State government to achieve our development goals,” Prince Oj stated.
Prince Oj further emphasized that Chief Ogboru’s defection was a personal decision that does not reflect the wishes of the Abraka community and will not affect their commitment to the government. He cited the example of Comr Noble Council Ogboru, whom Chief Ogboru personally recommended as councillor, who is now actively promoting Governor Oborivwori’s MORE agenda.
“What about Mr. Kelvin Ogboru, who has said that the APC would fall like a pack of cards? It is clear that the tide has changed, and Abraka community is strongly in support of Governor Oborivwori’s MORE agenda. We will continue to work with the government to ensure that our community is not left behind in the progress and development of our state,” Prince Oj said.
Prince Oj also criticized the APC, describing it as a gathering of expired and aggrieved politicians. He expressed his disappointment with Chief Ogboru’s decision to return to the APC, stating that it is akin to returning to Egypt.
“I was there, and I can say that my experience with them was terrible. If our father, Chief Ogboru, does not have short memories, he wouldn’t have returned to the same party that chased us all out in 2022 because of him,” Prince Oj said.
In conclusion, Prince Oj declared his support and the support of the people of Abraka for Governor Sherif Oborivwori, appreciating him for the good work he is currently doing in Abraka and encouraging him to do more.
“Our dear Governor, please do not be distracted; remain focused. We are committed to working with you to ensure that Abraka community and Delta State at large continue to progress and develop,” Prince Oj said.
