ADC Warns Tinubu Against Extending Tenure Beyond 2027

By Diafa Doubra,
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against any move to extend his stay in office beyond 2027.
Speaking in Abuja, the party said recent political conversations about tenure elongation were disturbing and capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy. The ADC stressed that the president must remain committed to constitutional provisions, which clearly state that the office of the president carries a maximum of two four-year terms.
According to the party, Nigerians are already grappling with economic and security challenges, and the least they need is a distraction caused by tenure speculation. It urged Tinubu to focus on delivering on his promises and ensuring stability in the country rather than fueling debates that could breed unrest.
The ADC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to defend democracy and warned that it would resist any attempt to derail the democratic process.
