The Ijaw Women Rights Protection Forum (IWRPF) has emphasised the need for increased participation and representation of women in politics and leadership positions within the Ijaw nation. According to Comrade Hilda Amogha, President of IWRPF, it’s time for Ijaw women to take their rightful places in leadership positions and decision-making processes.

Amogha lamented the long-standing marginalization and injustices faced by Ijaw women, adding women were used during campaigns but dumped after various politicians had the privilege of assumed leadership positions.

The women maintained that what women get after all sacrifices in supporting the politicians was not commensurable to their input in the politics in Ijaw nation.

She stressed that their voices must be respected and valued. She advocated for a shift in societal perception, recognizing women not just as caregivers but as leaders, professionals, innovators, and change-makers. “When women’s voices are heard, justice is stronger, leadership is wiser, and society is better for everyone,” she asserted.

The IWRPF is pushing for greater inclusivity and representation of women in governance, families, and communities. Amogha reiterated that Ijaw women will no longer be silenced, and their voices must be respected and valued in all spheres of society.
