AHQ ASSESSMENT TEAM VISITS NIGCOY 10 ECOMIG

The Army Headquarters (AHQ) Validation Team visited NIGCOY 10 ECOMIG Base Camp at Yundum in The Gambia on Tuesday, 2nd September, 2025.

The 4-man team, led by Colonel OO Olusanya was at the Base Camp to assess the operational readiness of the troops and ensure compliance with the mission mandate. The visit was also aimed at appraising the operations activities of the contingent, assessing combat readiness, and ensuring optimal utilization of equipment deployed in The Gambia.

In a statement, Col OO Olusanya commended the Commanding Officer NIGCOY 10, Lt Col SA Agada, and troops and urged them to remain professional, vigilant, and resilient in performing their duties. He further emphasized the need for troops to desist from any form of indiscipline and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) or any action that will tarnish the image of Nigeria.

The Team Leader also held a heart-to-heart interaction with the troops and reiterated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede command philosophy and promised to escalate all challenges to high command.

During the visit, the Commanding Officer NIGCOY 10, Lt Col SA Agada took the team on a guided tour around the Base Camp and thereafter briefed the team on the activities of the Contingent, including operations, training, patrol and CIMIC . He equally pointed out the challenges and achievements of NIGCOY 10. The Commanding Officer assured the team of NIGCOY 10 resolve to sustain the operational tempo and protect lives and properties within the mandate of the mission.

Furthermore, the AHQ Validation Team was received at ECOMIG FORCE HEADQUARTERS by the Force Commander of ECOMIG Colonel Ndiagne Diouf, who welcomed them to The Gambia. He reaffirmed the importance of their visit to physically assess the operational environment, stressing that it was an avenue for them to gain first hand information and knowledge of the operational activities of NIGCOY 10. The Team also interacted with the Deputy Force Commander ECOMIG Colonel KH Okeniyi as well as Staff Officers of the FHQ.

In a related development, the AHQ Team also visited the ECOWAS Special Representative and Head of Mission in The Gambia, Her Excellency Madam Miatta Lily French. She expressed her appreciation for the dedication and commitment of the Nigerian Contingent in The Gambia. The Team also interacted with Nigeria High Commissioner to The Gambia Ambassador Mohammed Manu.
