Elected senators under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have denied supporting Godswill Akpabio for his moves to be considered for the Senate President of the tenth Assembly.

The opposition senators-elect while reacting to the position of the eight-man caucus assembly of the All Progressives Congress, APC with the President-elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu on Friday said they can’t support Akpabio, describing him as a betrayer and a man of questionable character.

The much-awaited zoning of main officers of the tenth National Assembly was made public and has on account that elicited reactions.

Recall, Akpabio was once a two-time governor of Akwa Ibom on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress earlier than he became the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

Akpabio is set to be deputised by using Senator Jibrin Barau from Kano.

Similarly, Tajudeen Abass from Kaduna State has been tipped through the APC caucus as the Speaker of the lower legislative Chamber and is to be deputised by Benjamin Kalu from Abia State.

However, the investigation showed that Senator Barau and Abbas are from the North-West zone, a development that is seriously generating ripples in the APC. A newly elected Senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-South who pleaded anonymity spoke with newsmen and said Akpabio is now not in the excellent books of the party.

He said: “The preference of Akpabio is no longer proper to us. We are the essential opposition in the 10th Senate and APC ought to hear to us. We don’t choose Akpabio.

“Only 3 out of 36 PDP Senators are backing Akpabio which I know, the Senators-elect are from Rivers State and governor Nyesom Wike entreated them to help him.

“He is presenting us with money however we don’t favour his cash due to the fact he is no longer principled. He will ultimately sell out the Senate if allowed to be the Senate President.

“Remember what he did in 2018/2019. The PDP honoured him as a first-timer in the Senate by giving him the exalted function of Minority Leader.

”Without any simple cause, shopping for his pocket and egocentric interest, he deserted the PDP midstream and joined APC. He used to be rewarded with a ministerial position. We can’t believe such an individual for a Senate President, he is unstable,” the PDP Senator-elect alleged.
