AnambraDecides2025: 74-Year-Old Visually Impaired Man Among First to Arrive at Polling Station
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
A 74-year-old man living with visual impairment, Pa Julius Nwafor, was among the first enthusiastic voters to arrive at Polling Unit 002, located on Umuezeadigo Street in Isuofia community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Saturday morning.
He made it to the venue as early as 7:30 a.m., accompanied by his elderly daughter who guided him to the polling station.
Isuofia serves as the hometown of the sitting governor, Professor Charles Soludo, while Aguata LGA is one of the seven councils that constitute the Anambra South Senatorial District.
In an interview with PUNCH Online, Nwafor, a long-time trader, said he regarded taking part in the election as both a moral and civic responsibility.
“Although I cannot see, I am still a Nigerian. It is my duty to vote and clear my conscience, and that is why I came out today,” he explained.
Reacting to the large number of early arrivals at the polling centre, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State and one of the ten Election Logistics Technical Support Commissioners assigned to oversee the Anambra poll, commended the electorate for their enthusiasm and orderly conduct.
“It’s clear that the people are well-prepared, judging by their composure and the steady flow of voters coming in,” he noted.
According to Omoseyindemi, voting was scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m., immediately after the accreditation of voters using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
PUNCH Online further reports that today’s Anambra governorship election features 16 candidates seeking to replace the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
