Apapa Customs Sets New Daily Revenue Record of ₦20.1 Billion

By Diafa Doubra,
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has achieved a historic revenue milestone, collecting an unprecedented ₦20.1 billion in a single day.
The Command announced the record on Wednesday, describing it as a testament to its ongoing commitment to efficiency, transparency, and accountability in revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, said the achievement was the result of a series of reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation and closing revenue leakages. He attributed the breakthrough to a mix of technology-driven operations, strict compliance enforcement, and closer collaboration with port stakeholders.
“This achievement did not happen by chance. It is the result of collective effort, commitment, and transparency. By leveraging technology and blocking revenue leakages, Apapa Command is proving that Nigeria can attain self-sufficiency in revenue generation,” Olomu stated.
The Comptroller further noted that the feat aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen non-oil revenue sources amid dwindling crude oil earnings. He emphasized that improved automation of processes, seamless cargo clearance, and adherence to international best practices played key roles in the Command’s success.
Industry observers hailed the development as a positive signal for Nigeria’s trade and revenue system. However, they cautioned that sustaining the momentum would require continued investment in infrastructure, policy consistency, and the reduction of bureaucratic bottlenecks at the ports.
The Apapa port remains Nigeria’s busiest seaport, handling the largest volume of imports and exports. The record-breaking revenue collection has now set a new benchmark for other Customs formations across the country, raising hopes of surpassing the Service’s national revenue targets for the year.
