The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 27 passengers who were abducted by gunmen along a highway in Benue State.

According to reports, the victims were traveling in commercial vehicles when they were intercepted by suspected bandits. The attackers forced them into the forest, sparking panic among commuters in the area. Security forces under Operation Whirl Stroke, a special military task force deployed to tackle insecurity in Benue and neighboring states, quickly mobilized to track down the kidnappers.

After hours of combing through the dense forest, troops engaged the armed criminals in a gun battle. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled. The soldiers then escorted all 27 rescued passengers back to safety without any casualties.

Military officials confirmed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to restore peace in Benue, where incidents of kidnapping and rural banditry have been on the rise. They assured residents that the army remains committed to protecting lives and property while working with other security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.

The rescue has sparked relief among families of the victims and commuters who ply the route frequently. Community leaders have since called on the government to increase patrols on highways and provide stronger security presence in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.
