ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVERY OF GUN, AMMUNITION AND STOLEN VEHICLE

The Delta State Police Command, in its continued efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, has recorded a notable operational success with the arrest of a suspected cultist, the recovery of firearms, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTIST AND RECOVERY OF ONE BERRETTA PISTOL WITH THREE (3) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION: On 29/06/2025 Operatives of CP – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT) led by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Yoruba Street of Sapele town and arrested one Rasheed Atanda ‘m’ 31yrs, a native of Irinle community of Kwara State resident in Sapele town. Preliminary investigation further led the operatives to arrest other suspects, including: Charles Oyowe, ‘m’ 36yrs native of Obeda, Warri North LGA of Delta State, in whose possession a Beretta Pistol with three (3) rounds of live ammunition was recovered, Rewane Ogbitse, ‘m’ 49yrs, native of Jakpa, Warri South LGA of Delta State, and Shedrack Oloko, ‘m’ 44yrs, native of Ethiope East LGA of Delta State. All the suspects confessed to being members of the EYE confraternity. Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.
2. RECOVERY OF A SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLE : In a separate operation, the Operatives of CP – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT) on 30/06/2025 recovered a LEXUS 330 JEEP earlier reported stolen during a case of armed robbery. Sequel to the complaint received, it was gathered that the suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded a residence in the early hours of the day, carting away expensive jewelry, mobile phones, and Lexus 330 Jeep with registration number: RBC 656 CN. Following swift investigation and deployment of intelligence assets, the stolen vehicle was recovered around 0635hrs at UTI Road, off DSC Expressway, Ebrumede. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their swift and coordinated response, noting that the success of these operations underscores the importance of timely and credible information from members of the public. He emphasised that proactive community engagement and the prompt reporting of criminal activities significantly enhance the capacity of the Police to respond effectively and forestall further crimes.
