Asu Beks appeals to Govt for Tantita to Manage NIMASA’s Abandoned N50bn Floating Dockyard
By Monday Peters, Abuja
Elder Asu Beks, CEO of Maritime Media Limited, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to concession the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s (NIMASA) abandoned floating dockyard, valued at N50 billion, to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to manage. Beks described the asset as a “national embarrassment” due to its prolonged inactivity since 2016.
The floating dockyard, meant to support training activities at the Nigerian Maritime University, has been moving between facilities without being fully operational. Beks criticized past leadership for failing to address the issue, citing huge financial losses and questioning asset management in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Beks suggested Tantita Security Services Limited as a possible operator, citing their track record in oil pipeline and maritime security operations. He argued that reviving the dockyard would provide significant economic value, strengthen ship repair capacity, and support maritime training. ¹ ² ³
The concession is expected to generate $65.6 million and create over 800 jobs. NIMASA’s Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, is urged to take decisive action to ensure the asset becomes productive.
