Atiku Says He’s Vindicated Over Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway Cost

By Diafa Doubra,
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that recent developments surrounding the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project have vindicated his earlier criticism of the project’s cost and execution process.
Atiku, who had previously accused the Federal Government of inflating the project’s cost per kilometre and awarding the contract without due process, said emerging facts have now confirmed his concerns. Speaking through his media office on Wednesday, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) maintained that the project was shrouded in secrecy and lacked transparency from the onset.
He reiterated that his initial claims about inflated figures were not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring accountability in public spending. According to him, the Tinubu administration’s handling of the project continues to raise questions about fiscal discipline and governance standards.
Atiku urged the Federal Government to make the full details of the project’s cost, funding structure, and contractors public, stressing that Nigerians deserve to know how their resources are being utilized. He further called on the National Assembly to investigate the contract to guarantee transparency and fairness.
