There is growing tension in Zamfara State following the abduction of two councillors and a Chief Imam by suspected bandits. The victims were reportedly kidnapped on their way from Kaura Namoda Local Government Area to Birnin Magaji over the weekend.

According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed bandits ambushed their vehicle along the Kaura Namoda–Birnin Magaji road, forcing them into the nearby forest. The councillors, whose names have not yet been disclosed, were said to be returning from an official engagement when the incident occurred.

Local residents told reporters that the Chief Imam had earlier attended a religious event before joining the group on the ill-fated journey. The abductors have yet to contact the families of the victims or demand ransom as of the time of this report.

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the incident, assuring the public that security operatives are working tirelessly to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

This latest kidnapping adds to the rising wave of insecurity in Zamfara, where armed groups have continued to terrorize rural communities through abductions, extortion, and destruction of property despite ongoing military operations in the state.
