Bandits Kill Two Community Leaders, Kidnap Several in Fresh Katsina Attack Despite Peace Deal
By Diafa Doubra,
Armed bandits have killed two prominent community leaders and abducted several residents in a fresh attack on Doguwar Dorawa village, located in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims, identified as brothers Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo, were reportedly shot dead when the gunmen invaded the community late Wednesday night. Witnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, parked in the nearby bush, and quietly stormed the village before unleashing gunfire on unsuspecting residents.
Several people were also abducted during the assault, with families now uncertain about the fate of their loved ones. The incident has thrown the entire community into mourning and fear, coming just days after the state government renewed its peace accord with bandit groups operating in Bakori, Malumfashi, and Funtua local government areas.
Residents described the latest attack as a betrayal of trust and proof that the peace deal may be collapsing. “We were told that the government had reached an agreement with the bandits, but nothing has changed. They are still killing and kidnapping people,” a local youth leader lamented.
Security forces have since been deployed to the area, while authorities promise a thorough investigation. However, many locals remain sceptical, saying the government’s efforts to restore peace in Katsina have yet to yield meaningful results.
