Benin City Set to Host Edo Carnival 2025: A Week of Cultural Pride and Celebration

Benin City will play host to the maiden edition of the Edo Carnival 2025, a week-long cultural festival scheduled to hold from 21 to 27 December, celebrating the heritage, artistry, and traditions of the Edo people.

The event, themed “Our Culture, Our Pride,” seeks to promote unity, tourism, and the preservation of indigenous culture through a series of activities that highlight the depth and diversity of Edo’s history. Organisers have announced that the festival will attract participants, tourists, and performers from across Nigeria and other parts of the world, positioning Benin City as a major cultural destination.

The carnival’s itinerary features a rich line-up of events, including:

* Grand Opening Ceremony – 21 December
* Cultural Band Competition and Night Concert – 22 December
* Trade Fair and Comedy Show – 23 December
* Pageant Night – 24 December
* Christmas Family Fiesta – 25 December
* Grand Band Parade – 26 December
* Awards and Closing Concert – 27 December, to be presided over by His Excellency

Cultural troupes such as Eniware, Osigo, Queen Idia, Ohanmian, Enhenugha, Governor’s Band, Royal Band, and Black Rio are expected to perform, showcasing Edo’s rich heritage through traditional music, elaborate costumes, and choreographed performances inspired by royal traditions.

In addition, prominent Nigerian artists will perform at various segments of the event, blending Afrobeat with traditional Edo rhythms to create a unique fusion that celebrates the creative identity of the state.

According to the organisers, Peak Rendezvous Entertainment Global Ltd, the Edo Carnival 2025 will “serve as a platform to project the cultural excellence of the Edo people, foster unity, and boost cultural tourism in Nigeria.”
