MAIDUGURI, Nigeria— Suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Komdi village in Damboa local government area of Borno state on Thursday night, killing two people and wounding several others, residents and officials said.

The assault occurred around 8 p.m. when gunmen stormed the village, firing indiscriminately, according to residents. The attackers fled into the bush after the raid.

Those injured were first taken to Damboa for medical attention before being transferred to a hospital in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, for further treatment.

Damboa local government chairman, Ali Muhammad Kauji, visited the hospital on Friday to console the wounded and pledged support for affected families.

Boko Haram, designated a terrorist organization by the United Nations and the United States, has waged a 15-year insurgency in northeast Nigeria, targeting villages, security forces and aid workers.

Meanwhile, around 1 p.m. Friday, suspected Boko Haram fighters abducted three farmers in Mulimari village along the Damboa–Biu road, residents said.

The farmers were working on their fields when gunmen seized them. As of the time of filing this report, the abductors had not contacted the families with demands.

The abductions come as farmers in Borno face growing risks from insurgent attacks, which have forced many to abandon their fields. Aid agencies warn that the violence is worsening food insecurity in northeast Nigeria, where millions already depend on humanitarian assistance.
