Borno Police Chief Meets Bankers Over Security Concerns

BY: ADAMU ALIYU NGULDE, MAIDUGURU
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Borno State Police Commissioner Naziru Abdulmajid on Tuesday held talks with the Borno State Bankers’ Forum, urging stronger safeguards for financial institutions in the insurgency-hit region.
Addressing bankers at Command Headquarters in Maiduguri, Abdulmajid described banks as “critical players in sustaining economic growth” and pressed for closer cooperation with law enforcement. He called for modern CCTV systems in branches, timely intelligence sharing, and better welfare for officers escorting cash. He also advised banks to shut doors earlier — around 4 p.m. — to reduce risks of handling large sums after dark.
Chollom Joshua Pam, Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Maiduguri, praised the initiative and pledged that bankers would act on the security concerns.
Babagana Kyari, Chairman of Deposit Money Banks in Borno, echoed the support, saying greater collaboration with police would “not only strengthen security but also drive economic progress.”
The Borno State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding banks, their personnel, and the public.
