By Adamu Aliyu Ngulde
The Borno State Police Command has appointed CSP Zanna Mahdi as the officer commanding the Crack Squad, an elite unit responsible for crime control and rapid-response operations across the state, officials announced on Wednesday.
The appointment was disclosed by the Directorate of Information of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security, as authorities seek to reinforce policing and public safety in a region long affected by insecurity.
Mr. Mahdi, who was born in Gashua, Yobe State, is a law graduate of the University of Maiduguri and holds a master’s degree in law.
He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 2012 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and began his career at the GRA Division in Maiduguri.
He later served for nearly a decade as the divisional police officer in Nganzai, overseeing security operations and community policing initiatives in rural and conflict-affected areas of Borno State.
Until his new appointment, Mr. Mahdi was the divisional police officer in Malam Fatori, a border town in Abadam Local Government Area.
Security officials said his experience in frontline and border communities informed the decision, expressing confidence that his leadership would strengthen the Crack Squad’s crime-fighting capacity across Borno State.
