The Chief Imam of Borno State, Imam Laisu Ibrahim Ahmad, has convened a meeting with members of the Board of Islamic Preachers to prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, urging religious leaders to emphasize messages of peace, unity, and social harmony in their teachings.
The gathering, held at his residence in the Shehu’s Palace area of Maiduguri, brought together prominent Islamic scholars from across the metropolis. The meeting focused on guiding clerics on the tone and content of Ramadan Tafsir, a central feature of the fasting period marked by daily religious teachings.
Addressing the participants, the Chief Imam called on preachers to use the spiritual season to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among communities.
He cautioned against defamation, inflammatory language, and messages that could deepen divisions during sermons.
He also urged clerics to offer special prayers for sustained security and peaceful participation in upcoming national activities, stressing the importance of credible leadership and responsible citizenship at all levels of society.
In their remarks, Sheikh Gonimi and Tijani Umara encouraged moral discipline among youths and women and emphasized the need for vigilance in mosques. They concluded with prayers for lasting peace, stability, and unity in the state and across the country.
