The newly elected National Chairman of the Third Phase Amnesty Programme, Hon. Godstime Ogidigba, has been released from detention a week after his controversial arrest and detention in zone 5, Benin City.

It was gathered that his release was followed by the growing outrage from stakeholders of the Edo State Riverine Communities and human rights activist who had earlier condemned and described his arrest as politically motivated.

The Edo group, led by its spokesperson, Comrade Ezekiel Perela, had called on Governor Monday Okpebholo and top security officials to intervene.

In the same vein, a right advocate, comrade Ozobo Austin had also called for his immediate release, urging well-meaning Niger Delta leaders to intervene.

However, the details of the conditions surrounding Ogidigba’s release remain unclear, but sources confirmed he has reunited with his supporters. The Riverine Communities expressed relief, thanking those who stood by them.
