Breaking: INC Suspends 2026 Elections Over Disputes

The 2026 Ijaw National Congress (INC) national elections have been postponed due to petitions filed by aggrieved aspirants. INC President Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba cited several petitions and court injunctions as the reason for the postponement.
The Congress has amended its constitution to allow the Electoral Committee (ELECO) 30 days to resolve disputes before holding a fresh election. This amendment applies only to the current election disputes and won’t be automatically added to the constitution.
The INC constitution originally required elections to be held 60 days before the expiration of the current leadership’s term.
