BREAKING: Senegal Forfeit AFCON 2025 Final as Morocco Awarded 3–0 Victory
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Senegal have been declared to have forfeited the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following a ruling by the Appeal Board of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).
In its decision, CAF confirmed that the match would be officially recorded as a 3–0 victory in favour of Morocco, thereby crowning the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football as champions of AFCON 2025.
According to the governing body, the ruling was based on findings that Senegal’s conduct during the final breached tournament regulations, specifically Articles 82 and 84, resulting in the imposition of a forfeiture.
CAF also announced sanctions against Morocco for incidents that occurred during the match. These include fines relating to crowd behaviour, the conduct of ball boys, and interference in the vicinity of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review area.
Additionally, Moroccan midfielder Ismaël Saibari has been handed a two-match suspension, with one match suspended, for misconduct. A previously imposed fine on the player has, however, been rescinded.
The decision overturns an earlier ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Board and marks one of the most dramatic post-final developments in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.
