The ex-lawyer of the former governor of Delta State James Ibori has been ordered by a Court in the United Kingdom to pay £28 million for helping to hide looted funds in the country.

It would be recalled that the Ibori’s lawyer, Bhadresh Gohil, who is an Indian, was convicted in 2010 of 13- count charge of money laundering and other offences linked to his role in aiding Ibori to hide the proceeds from criminal activities.

The Indian legal practitioner, Gohil was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2010 and had served half of his sentence.

The Reuters reports that Gohil was ordered on Monday to pay over £28 million or face a further six-year sentence.

This coming on the heels of the UK court’s decision after Ibori was ordered last week to pay £101.5 million ($130 million) or face an eight-year sentence.

Consequently, Ibori said he would appeal the UK court ruling.
