CHURA Mourns Passing of Pa Clark, Calls on Oborevwori, Diri, Fubara To Immortalize Him

By Peters Monday, Abuja
The Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (CHURA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a leading leader of the Niger Delta region. Pa Clark, who was often referred to as an “Iroko” for sheltering the oppressed, was a tireless advocate for human rights and a champion of the minority struggle in Nigeria.
CHURA described Pa Clark as a role model in the human rights community and a leading voice for the Niger Delta region. His selfless commitment to nation-building and his unwavering dedication to the cause of justice and equality have left a lasting impact on the region.
In a statement, Alaowei Cleric Ebikonbowei Esq., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CHURA, called on the Federal Government, as well as the governments of Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers States, to immortalize Pa Clark in recognition of his lifetime contributions to the development of the Niger Delta region.
Pa Clark’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from across the country. Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, described his death as the “end of a great era,” praising Pa Clark’s unwavering dedication to the growth and unity of Nigeria.
The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) also mourned Pa Clark’s passing, describing him as a “mighty Iroko tree” whose contributions to public service, politics, and community development spanned over 75 years.
The statement reads,
“Pa Clark was an Iroko that sheltered the oppressed people in Nigeria. He was a voice to the voiceless. Indeed, humanity will miss him, especially for his selfless commitments to the course of our nation building. As a nationalist, he devoted his time and energy to work for the corporate existence of Nigeria.
“In the human rights community and the struggle for a better society, Pa Clark was our role model. He was the centre of attraction as the leading voice to the minority struggle in our checkered history. Since the death of Pa Harold Dapper-Biriye of blessed memory, Pa Clark became the lone voice to champion the course of the minority rights in Nigeria. His painful demise has left us with a vacuum that cannot be covered.
“Considering his noble services to humanity for the betterment of our dear Country, we call on the Federal Government, the governments of Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States to immortalize Pa Clark in order to appreciate his lifetime contributions to the course of our society.
“As an advocate of egalitarian society, he spoke truth to power and has never closed his mouth until he breathed his last breath on earth. This sage therefore, deserves to be immortalized as a living legend for generations to know.
Adieu Papa. May his gentle soul rest in peace”.
