Coalition of Political Opposition Unveils Plan to Build Strong ADC in Kaduna

By Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
A group of stakeholders from the Coalition of Political Opposition in Kaduna State, comprising members from various political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), have commenced consultations to build a strong African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
The stakeholders, who include prominent politicians such as Senator. Nenadi Usman, Senator. Datti Baba Ahmed, and Alhaji. Shuaibu Idris Mikati, believe that the ADC can provide a platform for uniting citizens across the state and promoting democratic values.
The stakeholders has said they have begun formalizing engagements and agreeing on how to proceed with the task of domesticating the Coalition and developing the structures of the ADC across all 23 Local Governments and 255 Wards in the state.
Addressing a Press conference in Kaduna the Coalition group said. “We are taking our bearing from experiences at national level by making efforts to replicate the model used to consummate agreement making the ADC the political party platform for the Coalition with all the main opposition leaders united,” the stakeholders said.
The stakeholders have identified key principles for building the party, including recognizing and involving all stakeholders in decision-making, suspending individual ambitions to contest for elections during the period of negotiation, and treating all leaders equally.
“We believe that no one person can defeat the APC and Governor Uba Sani alone. We must work towards unity of all opposition leaders in the state to achieve that,” the stakeholders said.
The stakeholders acknowledged that one of the challenges they face is the presence of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, immediate past Governor, and his group in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“Although they are members of the Coalition at national level, they have requested for time to conclude with bye-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025 before they can join the ADC,” the stakeholders said.
The stakeholders appealed to all opposition political leaders in Kaduna State aspiring to join the Coalition and register as members of the ADC to have a higher tolerance level and prioritize the unity of citizens across the state.
“We want to appeal to the national leaders of the Coalition and Interim leadership of ADC to take every step necessary to ensure that the orientation of the Coalition and ADC in Kaduna State does not accommodate or support the emergence of political leaders who are discriminatory, self-serving and lawless,” the stakeholders said.
