COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE NUJ WARRI CORRESPONDENTS’ CHAPEL AFTER ITS MAIDEN CONGRESS HELD AT ITS BRAND NEW EDIFICE, HIGH CHIEF GOVERNMENT EKPEMUPOLO PRESS CENTRE

The Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, during its maiden Congress at the new High Chief Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre in Warri, Delta State, deliberated on a wide range of issues and resolved as follows:
1. The Congress commended and appreciated Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) and its chairman, High Chief Government Owiezide Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo for building and equipping a befitting edifice for practising journalists in Warri, Delta State. The beautiful edifice will, in no doubt, improve the performance of media practitioners and credible journalism in Nigeria.
2. Also, the Congress, immensely, appreciated the role and effort of the Managing Director, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Kestin Pondi and Dr. Paul Benenimibo (Registrar, Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko), for facilitating this noble edifice for members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel. The Union is full of appreciation.
3. The Congress also appreciated the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for inaugurating the state-of-the-art building. The Union thanked the Executive Director, Projects, DESOPADEC, Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu PhD, for gracing the occasion on behalf of the Governor.
4. The Congress additionally, saluted its national leader and pathfinder, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, for his sagacity and generosity which had resulted in the building of the permanent secretariat for NUJ Warri.
5. The Congress further sent its warm appreciation to the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, His Royal Majesty, Oghenechuko Morris Eyekpimi, Owhotenu 1, for monitoring and ensuring a seamless construction of the edifice, as well as attending the inauguration of the press centre.
6. Similarly, the Union, during the chapel’s Congress, also commended the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Monday Obukowho Whiskey PhD, Odurhie 1, for his contributions and gracing the inauguration ceremony.
7. The Congress was full of appreciation and commendation for the current and immediate past National Presidents of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahyah and Comrade Chris Isiguzo, for their roles in birthing this historic landmark in Nigeria journalism. Delta State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe was equally commended.
8. While the Congress is full of praises for some landmark projects being executed by the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Union, however, lamented that the only access road to the High Chief Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre at Eburu Street, off Okumagba Avenue Road, is in a deplorable state and, therefore, appealed to the Delta State Governor to extend his magic wand in reconstructing the road. This is just as Congress, equally, encouraged the Warri Uvwie Environs Development Agency (WUEDA) to hasten the ongoing road and drainage reconstruction at Eboh and other adjoining streets of Okumagba Avenue, Warri.
9. The Congress also deliberated on the perennial flooding in some parts of Warri, Udu, Uvwie and Okuokoko in Okpe LGA, and called on Governor Oborevwori to, urgently, tackle the menace to ameliorate the suffering of residents in the affected areas in the state. It urged the state government to construct workable drainages alongside the roads.
10. Furthermore, the Congress, while also thanking the state governor for the flyover projects at PTI Junction, Enerhen Junction and DSC Roundabout in Uvwie, called on His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to direct the contractor, Julius Berger, to carry out remedial work on the Effurun Roundabout/DSC Roundabout stretch of the Road that had turned into gullies in order to ameliorate the unending loss of man-hours.
