Court docks hunter over alleged murder in Ondo

A 28-year-old hunter, Michael Sunday has been remanded in police custody for alleged murder by a Magistrate Court in Akure on Friday.
Following the hearing of the case, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Mary Adebayo explained that the offence was committed on April 18 at Utaja, Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of the State.
She emphasized that the offence is punishable under Section 319( 1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Adebayo urged the court to remand Sunday in the Ondo Correctional Centre pending investigation. While responding, the defence counsel, Mr Adelanke Akinrata, opposed the application, stating that the prosecution had no convincing evidence and information to connect the defendant to the alleged killing.
Akinrata further prayed to the court to grant the defendant bail, stressing that the defendant was still innocent until proven otherwise.
However, Magistrate F. A. Aduroja, who gave the order, adjourned the case until May 3 for a ruling on the bail application by the defence counsel, Mr Adelanke Akinrata.
