The Centre for Responsible Governance (CRG) has condemned attempts by suspended officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to create confusion and destabilize the party. In a statement, CRG spokesman Obande George faulted the alleged moves by Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled former National Secretary of the party, to continue parading himself as an officer and engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on party convention matters. ¹

CRG noted that Anyanwu and other national officers were suspended by the PDP National Working Committee on November 1, 2025, over allegations of anti-party activities, a decision upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on March 9, 2026. The organization described any attempt to initiate or plan party congresses by suspended officials as illegal, null, and void, warning that such actions could deepen the internal crisis within the opposition party.

The CRG expressed concern over reports linking the actions of the suspended officers to political interests aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, noting that external interference in party affairs often aggravates internal instability. CRG emphasized that the integrity of political parties is critical to Nigeria’s democratic stability, warning that persistent disregard for court rulings and party structures sets a dangerous precedent.

The organization urged relevant institutions, including INEC, to exercise due diligence and avoid recognizing communications or actions from individuals who lack legal standing within the party. CRG called on PDP stakeholders to prioritize peace, respect judicial pronouncements, and engage in constructive dialogue to restore unity within the party.
