Dangote Refinery Begins Diesel Supply to Northern Nigeria

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially commenced the distribution of diesel to marketers in Northern Nigeria, marking a significant step in improving fuel availability and reducing dependency on imported petroleum products. The move is expected to ease the fuel supply challenges that have long plagued the northern part of the country.

According to company sources, several trucks loaded with diesel left the refinery’s massive complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, en route to key cities in the North including Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Jos. This development comes after the refinery began supplying diesel and aviation fuel to marketers in the South earlier this year.

Industry experts and marketers have hailed the development as a milestone that could stabilize fuel prices and improve supply chains across the country. The refinery, which is Africa’s largest, has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day and is expected to meet Nigeria’s entire fuel demand when fully operational.

The northern rollout of diesel supply is particularly significant given the region’s reliance on long-haul fuel transportation and its vulnerability to scarcity. With Dangote’s products now reaching the North directly, analysts expect a ripple effect in reducing logistics costs and enhancing energy security.

The refinery’s expansion into national distribution strengthens its promise to end Nigeria’s fuel import era and transform the country into a self-sufficient energy powerhouse.
