The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that it will commence free delivery of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, to marketers starting Monday, in a move aimed at easing supply challenges across the country.

Alongside this, the refinery also revealed a significant price reduction, slashing the cost of petrol to ₦841 per litre, a development expected to bring some relief to Nigerians grappling with the high cost of fuel.

The refinery management explained that the new pricing strategy was informed by improved refining efficiency and its desire to stabilize the market. With fuel accounting for a major part of daily expenses and inflationary pressures, the cut is expected to have a ripple effect on transportation and commodity prices.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a game-changer that could help curb arbitrary pricing by middlemen. However, they also urged the Federal Government and regulators to ensure transparency in distribution so that the benefits reach ordinary Nigerians.

The announcement marks another milestone for Africa’s largest refinery, which has been touted as a key player in Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency.
