The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and violent crimes, arresting four suspects in separate operations and recovering firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs.

The operations, carried out between April 11 and 12, 2026, were part of the Command’s sustained, intelligence-led efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.

In the first operation, operatives of the Delta Shield unit, while on surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted a 32-year-old suspect identified as Peter Onajite. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, and sachets of substances suspected to be tramadol.

Police sources disclosed that the suspect, during preliminary interrogation, confessed to being the leader of the notorious Juris Confraternity. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a related development, police operatives attached to the Ibusa Division foiled a suspected cult initiation ceremony linked to members of the Aiye confraternity. Acting on credible intelligence, officers stormed a location on Jordan Road, Ibusa, where the initiation was reportedly underway.

The raid resulted in the arrest of three suspects, including a female, while one other suspect, identified as Chinedu Onyeama, escaped and is currently at large.

Items recovered from the scene include an English-made Beretta pistol loaded with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and 39 firelighters believed to be intended for use during the initiation process.

All suspects are currently in custody, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring all those involved to justice.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and warned that security agencies will continue to clamp down decisively on cult-related activities and other violent crimes across the state.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts at ensuring public safety.
