The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, alongside the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, the victim’s vehicle, the gang’s operational car, and a sophisticated network jammer.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the arrests were made following separate intelligence-led operations carried out by different tactical units of the Command.

On September 12, 2025, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, arrested two suspects — 36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore, both residents of Ometan. The duo had earlier been sighted by a community security guard Abdullahi Mohammad attempting to steal a vehicle battery. When confronted, they allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the incident.

The police disclosed that further interrogation of Elvis led to the arrest of another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. A follow-up operation resulted in the discovery of an AK-47 rifle concealed inside an isolated building within Ometan Community, which was linked to the syndicate. Investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the gang.

In a separate operation, officers from the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, rescued a young man who had been abducted from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku on September 8, 2025. The victim, whose name was withheld, had been shot in the leg by his captors after they collected a ransom of ₦2 million, claiming the amount was insufficient.

The police operatives tracked the suspects into the Ogwashi-Uku bush, where the victim was rescued alive despite his injuries. Two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Chukwuebuka Nka from Enugu State and Uche Okechukwu from Imo State, were later apprehended along Owerri Road in Anambra State. The victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV was also recovered from them.

Their confessions led the operatives to Agidiase village in Ogwashi-Uku, where an 18-year-old suspect, Somto Chukwuma from Anambra State, was arrested. He further guided the police to another hideout in the area, where the gang’s operational Toyota Matrix vehicle and a network jammer circuit device were recovered.

Speaking on the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended his men for their professionalism and resilience. He reiterated that criminals would find no safe haven in Delta State under his watch, stressing that the Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across communities.

The arrested suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
