Delta Police Declare Manhunt for Victor Ojei a.k.a “Wong Box” Over Assault and Threat to Life

By Diafa Doubra,
The Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Victor Ojei, popularly known as “Wong Box”, a self-acclaimed human rights activist accused of assault, threat to life, and violent conduct.
The suspect, who was arrested on August 14, 2025, for offences bordering on assault occasioning harm, threatening violence, and issuing death threats, was granted bail on the same day. However, he has since failed to report back to the police for further investigation, forcing the Command to declare him wanted.
According to police findings, the case against Ojei stemmed from an incident on May 29, 2025, when staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) visited his residence at Anyameluhor Street, Asaba, to disconnect his electricity supply over an outstanding debt of ₦4.87 million.
Eyewitnesses and video evidence revealed that Ojei allegedly confronted the officials with a cutlass, threatening to harm them if they did not reconnect his power. In the footage, he was heard shouting at the staff, ordering them to restore electricity to his compound, while vowing to “burst their heads” and declaring, “I go cut una, and nothing go happen.”*
The situation escalated when a pregnant BEDC staff member reportedly fell during the confrontation and sustained injuries, prompting her hospitalization for over two weeks. Out of fear for their safety, the officials reconnected his electricity before leaving the premises.
In the same video, Ojei allegedly identified himself as “Wong Box of Delta State,” boasting of being a politician and warning the BEDC staff to “ask questions” before disconnecting his property in the future.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the suspect’s conduct was a clear violation of the law, stressing that his refusal to return after being granted bail had worsened the case against him.
“The Command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda wishes to reiterate that nobody is above the law, and the suspect is not an exception. The police will ensure that Victor Ojei, a.k.a Wong Box, is rearrested and brought to justice,” Bright stated.
He further assured that the Delta State Command is committed to maintaining law and order and will pursue the case until justice is served.
