Delta Police Launch Manhunt as Retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu is Found Murdered in Her Asaba Home

The Delta State Police Command has begun an intense investigation into the gruesome murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose body was discovered in her Asaba residence under disturbing circumstances. The tragic incident, which has shocked residents and the legal community, came to light on November 24, 2025, when her brother visited her home and found her lifeless body tied hand and foot in the sitting room.
According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, swiftly mobilised officers to the residence after receiving the distress report. The victim’s remains were evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy to aid the ongoing investigation. One suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, has already been arrested in connection with the case, while the prime suspect, Godwin Vanem, is currently on the run. Police sources confirm that preliminary findings strongly suggest that Vanem may have been directly responsible for the killing before fleeing the apartment.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation. The Command has intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspect, assuring the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice. A manhunt is already underway, with operatives deployed to trace all possible leads.
In a heartfelt statement, CP Abaniwonda extended his condolences to the family of the late Justice Okogwu, describing the act as “dastardly and unacceptable.” He pledged that the police would pursue the case with the utmost seriousness and ensure the family receives justice. The Commissioner also appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with credible information that could aid the investigation to contact the Command through its emergency lines.
