The Delta State Police Command has begun an intensive manhunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, and members of an armed group linked to the killing of three young men in Asaba on Monday, 24th November 2025. The tragic incident occurred near ‘B’ Division in the state capital and has since sparked widespread concern and outrage.

According to preliminary police findings, Chief Nkeeshe allegedly led a team of vigilantes and suspected cult members—some reportedly dressed in Army camouflage on an operation at a disputed parcel of land in Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha Road. The group was said to be enforcing an unauthorised quit notice in an attempt to take possession of the property, despite having no court order to back their actions. What began as an aggressive attempt to evict occupants quickly escalated into a confrontation, during which the armed group allegedly opened fire. The three youths who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to the hospital but were later pronounced dead.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialised investigators to track down every individual connected to the attack. He described the act as a “reckless, unprovoked, and unacceptable display of lawlessness,” stressing that no person—regardless of status or influence would be shielded from accountability.

The Police Command also appealed to residents of Asaba, Onicha-Olona, and surrounding communities to assist with credible information that could aid the ongoing manhunt. CP Abaniwonda assured the public that normalcy has been restored in the affected area and that surveillance operations, coordinated searches, and intelligence-driven patrols will continue to prevent further unrest.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to report suspicious activities or sightings of the suspects through its emergency line: 08036684974.
