The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime across the state, recording fresh successes in its fight against insecurity. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Safe Delta Squad carried out three separate operations that led to the arrest of suspected cultists and armed robbers, as well as the recovery of dangerous weapons.

Cultist Arrested with Beretta Pistol in Ibusa:

On September 10, 2025, acting on credible intelligence about cult activities in Ibusa town, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team trailed and arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi, age 29, originally from Ikenne-Remo community in Ijebu-Ode LGA of Ogun State but residing at Ogboli Quarters, Ibusa.

A search warrant was executed at his residence, leading to the recovery of a Beretta pistol loaded with one round of ammunition. During interrogation, Olugbemi confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Arrow Barger.” Police confirmed that investigations into his activities are ongoing.

Safe Delta Foils Armed Robbery, Arrests Suspects with Fabricated Guns:

In another breakthrough, on September 9, 2025, Safe Delta operatives on surveillance patrol along DBS Road, Asaba, encountered a group of young men fighting, one of whom was armed with a cutlass. The operatives swiftly intervened and arrested Raphael Chukwuemeka age 23. A cut-to-size double-barrel pistol and seven live cartridges were recovered from him. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Similarly, on September 10, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m., Safe Delta operatives conducting a stop-and-search operation at Head Bridge, Asaba, intercepted three suspects riding on a motorcycle. The suspects — Solomon Offor, age 22; Ifesinachi Nwankeze, age 19; and Ambrose Ugwuba, age 23 — were found with a locally-made single-barrel cut-to-size gun, several cartridges, and a dagger concealed in a bag. They were immediately taken into custody for further investigation.

Command Reassures Residents:

Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Edafe Bright, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, stated that the command will not relent in its efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. The suspects remain in custody while investigations are ongoing,” Bright said in a statement from Asaba.

The Delta State Police Command called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information that would help security agencies tackle crime in the state.
