The Delta State Police Command has made major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on violent crimes, cultism, and armed robbery across the state. Acting on credible intelligence and sustained community collaboration, police operatives successfully arrested a murder suspect in Agbor and dismantled a suspected cult and armed robbery gang in Warri.

In Agbor, detectives attached to the Agbor Division arrested 25-year-old Musa Buhari of Alihagu Village for his alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Friday Orumgbe, age 53, of Idumu Oza, Ika South Local Government Area. The victim was declared missing on October 7, 2025, after he failed to return home the previous day. Following an intensive investigation ordered by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, operatives traced the victim’s mobile phone, a Tecno T101—to the suspect.

During interrogation, Buhari reportedly confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (currently at large), had posed as passengers and lured the victim into a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor. There, they allegedly attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone. Acting on the suspect’s confession, police led him to the crime scene, where the decomposing body of the victim was discovered and later identified by his family. The remains were deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.

In a separate operation, operatives of ‘B’ Division, Warri, acting on the directive of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, intensified night patrols in the Ubeji community following a series of cult-related clashes. Around 3 a.m. on October 19, 2025, officers intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with registration number KWL 359 DS (Abuja), parked suspiciously with two occupants—Christian Agbajor Akpos, age 33, and Sophia Thomas, age 26.

Upon questioning, the duo failed to give a satisfactory explanation for their movement at that hour, prompting a search of the vehicle. Police recovered a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge. Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of both the MAPHITE confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He further confessed that the firearm was supplied by a man known as Mr. Shimaye, said to be the Deputy Chairman of Ubeji community.

Both suspects remain in custody as police intensify efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift action. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and community engagement, assuring residents that the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to rid the state of crime and ensure the safety of lives and property.
