The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques totaling over ₦16.6 million to families of deceased officers, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.

The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, forms part of the Command’s contributions to the nationwide commemoration, ahead of the grand finale scheduled at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A total sum of ₦16,679,749.92 was disbursed to 13 beneficiaries, in a move aimed at supporting families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant. He emphasized that the gesture reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and their families.

He assured the beneficiaries that the Force remains steadfast in its support, noting that the sacrifices of fallen officers would never be forgotten.

In a vote of appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Command for the financial support. He noted that the assistance would significantly ease the burden on affected families and prayed for continued success and strength for the Force.

The Commissioner further urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, reiterating that the Police institution would continue to stand by them in recognition of the ultimate sacrifices made by their loved ones.

The cheque presentation marks the climax of week-long activities organized by the Delta State Command in honour of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
