The Delta State Police Command has intensified its enforcement of traffic laws across major roads in Warri and Asaba, resulting in the prosecution of 68 offenders for various traffic-related offences.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with seven designated judges and magistrates of mobile courts across the state, forms part of the Delta State Government’s broader strategy to curb rising traffic violations and enhance public safety.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the offenders were prosecuted at mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court in Okwe. The offences ranged from unauthorized use of number plates to driving without valid documentation.

A breakdown of the prosecutions shows that seven individuals were charged for unauthorized use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, and 15 for operating vehicles without registration numbers. Additionally, two persons were charged for the illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, while 15 were cited for road obstruction. Thirteen offenders were prosecuted for driving with covered number plates, and 11 for driving without valid driver’s licences.

The Command noted that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates are frequently linked to criminal activities and are often used to evade security checkpoints.

“All offenders were duly fined in accordance with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations,” the statement said, emphasizing the consequences of non-compliance.

The Police Command further disclosed that it is strengthening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA) to ensure coordinated enforcement and improve road safety across the state.

Residents and road users have been urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, ensure proper vehicle registration, and carry valid driving licences at all times.

Reaffirming its stance, the Command reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations, pledging continued decisive action to safeguard lives and maintain order on Delta State roads.
