Delta Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Suspected Kidnapper and Armed Robbers

By Diafa Doubra,
The Delta State Police Command has once again recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against crime with the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspected abductor, and the capture of suspected armed robbers in Asaba.
Kidnap Victim Rescued in Agbor
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Agbor Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Obekpa Michael, stormed Oza Nogogo community in Ika South Local Government Area and rescued a young girl who had been abducted.
The suspect, identified as Bila Halili, a 30-year-old from Kosso community in Sokoto State, was caught in possession of the victim, Rebecca Mathew, who was kidnapped on September 11, 2025. Rebecca, originally from Bodinga Community in Washegu LGA, Niger State, was found in the suspect’s premises after operatives, assisted by local vigilantes, raided the location.
Police investigations revealed that Rebecca had been hypnotised. She recounted that the suspect lured her away from her family home, destroyed her SIM card to cut off communication, and kept her against her will. Further inquiries led the police to her mother, Mrs. Esther Moses, who confirmed that Rebecca had been missing since September 2, 2025. A complaint had earlier been lodged at the Niger State Police Command before Delta operatives traced her to the suspect’s hideout.
Halili is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested in Asaba
In a separate operation on September 9, 2025, the Eagle Net Special Squad, in synergy with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), raided a criminal hideout at Basket Market along Asaba–Benin Road, Uromi Junction.
The team, led by SP Yunusa Danyaya, arrested a total of 27 suspects, all adults, following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation. During the raid, police recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun and large quantities of illicit drugs.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were using the location as a base to hatch criminal activities and terrorise unsuspecting residents. They are currently in custody as investigations continue to track their wider network.
CP Calls for Community Support
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their swift actions and stressed the importance of community collaboration in combating crime. He reminded residents that security is a shared responsibility, urging the public to provide timely and credible information that could help police operations.
“Security is everybody’s business,” CP Abaniwonda said. “We encourage Deltans to always come forward with useful information that can assist in nipping crime in the bud.”
Police Spokesperson’s Confirmation
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the developments in a statement on Saturday, assured the public that the Delta State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents.
